The Distretto Sociale Barolo is an ecosystem that constitutes a unicum in our country: founded in 1823 by Giulia and Tancredi, the last Marquises of Barolo, it has been active uninterruptedly for almost 200 years.

It occupies an area between Via Cigna and Via Cottolengo with 14 buildings owned by the Opera Barolo, made available to as many ecclesiastical and civil organizations that, thanks to the work of more than 100 operators and 320 volunteers, guarantee fundamental services, either daytime or residential, to about 20,000 people every year.

Physical places are important because they make services possible but also because, in offering spatial continuity to relationships, they enable the development of innovative and community-activated ways of helping and exchanging.

The Opera Barolo supports social activities fundamentally by making buildings available to social activity organizations. Since 2010, the Opera and the District institutions, have undertaken a profound and constant action of structural upgrading of the complex.
