The “Piccola Casa della Divina Provvidenza” (The Little House of Divine Providence) known as the ‘Cottolengo‘ after the name of its Founder, was founded in 1828 when St. Giuseppe Benedetto Cottolengo established a first ‘little hospital’ to take in the sick who could not be admitted to other hospitals in the city. After almost four years, the ‘Piccola Casa della Divina Provvidenza’ was founded in the Valdocco area, part of Turin’s quartier Borgo Dora.It still has its headquarters there today: a city within a city, a place of welcome for the poor and marginalised.

Situated in the heart of Turin, the “Piccola Casa” is a welfare and hospital institute dedicated to welcoming and caring for the last of the poor, the sick, the elderly, the disabled, minors without families, migrants, the homeless, offering them concrete answers through the work of nuns, priests and lay people: every worker, whatever his or her task, becomes an ‘instrument’ of Divine Providence at the service of the poor. Hospitality is offered to all without discrimination in respect of the person.

It is possible to visit the Piccola Casa (without access to the wards) and the Chiesa Grande.
